Torrevieja is the main town of the Vega Baja, on the southern Costa Blanca beside two large salt lagoons. One lagoon glows pink and the other green, coloured by microorganisms, and the salt pans support flamingos and other birdlife alongside a centuries-old salt industry. The town is a sprawling, sun-drenched resort with long beaches and a busy marina.
