Why visit Sagunto

Sagunt (Sagunto) piles up two thousand years of history on one hill: a restored Roman theatre still used for performances, and above it a castle whose walls run for nearly a kilometre along the ridge, layering Iberian, Roman, Moorish and Christian remains. The old Jewish quarter climbs the slope below, while the port town and its beach sit a few kilometres east. The coast's big Roman day out, and an easy trip north from Valencia.
