Moraira, part of the municipality of Teulada, is one of the more low-key and upmarket spots on the northern Costa Blanca, set on a bay between Calpe and Jávea. It has kept a small fishing-village feel, with no high-rise skyline — vineyards and villas instead run back into the hills behind.
The centre gathers around a small marina and an 18th-century watchtower-castle on the seafront, with a promenade of restaurants and a weekly market. The main beach, l'Ampolla, is sandy and sheltered; rocky coves and the Cap d'Or headland walk lie a short way along the coast.
It suits a slow visit — a swim, a wander to the castle, and a long seafood lunch by the harbour — and makes a quiet base between the bigger draws of Calpe's rock and Jávea's beaches.
