Playa de la Concha (Platja de la Conxa) is the main town beach of Oropesa del Mar in Castellón: a 700 m curve of fine golden sand, about 80 m wide, with calm, shallow water and a seafront promenade lined with hotels, apartments and restaurants. It lies just south of the cape of Oropesa, about 1 km from the town’s railway station, with free and paid car parks behind the promenade. It suits families with small children, swimmers who want calm water and anyone who wants every service close by. Skip it in August if you dislike busy urban beaches; head for the coves south of the bay instead.

What to expect

The regional tourist board calls La Concha “one of the most popular beaches in the province of Castellón” (Turisme Comunitat Valenciana). It is a town beach with full services: sunshades and sun loungers for hire, skates, swings and slides for children, and lifeguards in high season. In summer the town runs free activities on the sand, such as tai chi, yoga and outdoor sports.

The promenade is lined with hotels, apartments and restaurants serving Mediterranean food. The services listed on the portal also include toilets, foot showers, walkways, a tourist information point, sailing and windsurfing.

The paved Vía Verde del Mar greenway starts halfway along the promenade and runs 5.7 km south to Benicàssim along the old coastal railway. At the eastern end the bay finishes below the cape, where the Torre del Rei watchtower stands about 500 m from the middle of the sand (OpenStreetMap). The tourist board’s Oropesa page lists the Torre del Rey among the watchtowers worth a visit, together with the castle on the hill above the old town and the Orpesa la Vella archaeological site.

Accessibility and safety

The regional portal lists the beach as accessible, with access for people with reduced mobility and walkways onto the sand. Ask the tourist office whether an assisted-bathing service runs during your dates; we could not confirm one. Lifeguards cover the beach in high season only. The water is shallow and usually calm, but keep an eye on small children and check the flag before swimming.

Best time to visit

June and September give warm water with fewer people than July and August. Visit outside high season if you want to bring a dog: the dog season runs from November to February.
