Llanes

What it actually is
A medieval walled town on the eastern Asturian coast, and the most useful base on the Costa Verde. The old core keeps a thirteenth-century tower and part of its wall.
The coast either side of town
The reason to stay is what lies within twenty minutes: Gulpiyuri, Pría and shell-shaped Torimbia west, Ballota and Andrín east. In town, the harbour breakwater is the Cubos de la Memoria, painted by Agustín Ibarrola in 2001–02.
