The high valleys

The Alt Vinalopó is the highest and driest part of Alicante province, a corridor of valleys running inland toward Castile. It is castle country — the fortresses along the Vinalopó marked the frontier between Christian and Muslim territory for centuries, and several still stand on their rock above the town.
