Cala del Racó del Conill (Villajoyosa)

Cove

See it on the map ↓Costa Blanca guide

The Racó del Conill is a naturist cove 3 km from Villajoyosa town centre, on the Benidorm side. It is 160 m of pebbles and sand below vertical cliffs, and a rocky outcrop splits it in two. The town lists it as suitable for naturism and good for diving and fishing. The water is clear, and snorkellers come for the fish. Access is by a short, rough way down from the road, or along the Colada de la Costa coastal path from El Torres beach. It suits naturists, snorkellers and walkers. Skip it if you want sand, lifeguards, showers or an easy walk to the water with small children.

Access and parking

By car: the cove lies on the coast between El Torres beach and the Torre de l’Aguiló, off the Benidorm road. The town hall lists “1 difficult vehicle access” (Villajoyosa town hall, beaches). In December 2024 the town finished asphalting and widening the road network in the Racó del Conill area. The work came under its forest fire prevention plan (town hall, 2024).

Parking: OpenStreetMap marks a strip of roadside parking about 180 m from the beach. We could not confirm how many cars fit, or whether there is a charge.

The last stretch: the regional tourism board says access is “slightly difficult”: you cross a pebbly section to reach the water (Comunitat Valenciana tourism). OpenStreetMap shows steps and paths down from the bar to the shore.

On foot: the Colada de la Costa coastal path follows an old drove road (vía pecuaria) by the sea. It runs past the Roman funerary tower of Sant Josep, round the Racó del Conill and on to the Torre de l’Aguiló watchtower. The town gives its full length as 8 km. The regional tourism board describes a 5 km walk from El Torres beach, of medium to low difficulty. In a straight line, El Torres is 1.6 km west of the cove.

By bus: OpenStreetMap shows Transport Públic Marina Baixa stops (operator Llorente Bus) on Avinguda del Mestral, about 1 km north of the cove in a straight line. We could not confirm which lines stop there or how often.

What to expect

This is a natural cove, not a resort beach. The town calls it an “exotic cove between mountains”. The tourism board stresses the clear water, the cliffs and the rocky outcrop that divides the beach in two. Bring a mask: both the tourism board and the town single it out for snorkelling and diving, and the town also mentions fishing.

The town lists the cove as suitable for naturism, and the tourism board calls it a naturist beach. Come expecting nude bathers. If that bothers you, choose another beach. A beach bar sits above the cove in summer. We could not confirm its opening hours, its prices or any house rules.

Practical details

  • Bring water, shade and reef shoes or sandals. The town lists no showers or WC at this cove, and the shore is pebbly.
  • No dogs. Caravans and motorhomes are not allowed either.
  • Do not smoke on the beach. All 13 of Villajoyosa’s beaches and coves joined the Valencian smoke-free beach network in 2025 (town hall, 2025).
  • Since the 2024 season, the town’s beach cleaning contract covers the Racó del Conill (town hall, 2023).
  • The town says it monitors water quality here and publishes the results on its beaches page. The regional tourism board marks the cove as a bathing zone not monitored by the regional environment department.
  • Tourist information: Villajoyosa tourist office, 966 851 371, turismo@villajoyosa.es (as listed by Comunitat Valenciana tourism, checked November 2026).

Accessibility and safety

The town’s beach list includes no lifeguard service for this cove, while it does list one for town beaches such as La Caleta. Swim within your limits, and take care around the rocks if you snorkel. Getting down means steps, a path and a pebbly section, so this cove is not suitable for wheelchairs or for anyone unsteady on their feet. The town calls the land around the cove a forest zone. That is why it widened the access road for fire engines. Do not light fires or barbecues.

Best time to visit

Go on a weekday morning, or in late spring or early autumn, when there is less competition for the few roadside spaces. If you walk the coastal path in summer, start early and carry water.

Expect works on the path. In November 2026 the town announced €140,000 of repairs on about 2 km of the Colada de la Costa between El Torres beach and the Racó del Conill: new surfacing, railings, steps and drainage. The town gave no start date. The path was a Blue Trail (Sendero Azul) for the third year running in 2026 (town hall, November 2026).
