Cudillero
VillageCudillero is built so steeply into its ravine that the houses rise above the harbour in tiers. Locals call it el anfiteatro, with reason.
What it actually is
A working fishing port on the western Asturian coast, wedged into a cleft where a stream meets the sea. There is almost no flat ground: painted terraces climb from the Plaza de la Marina to viewpoints on both ridges. A 2006 decree protects it.
Getting the most from a short visit
Park at the top: the harbour car park is tiny and the walk down through the tiers is the point. Work the miradores for the view over roofs and boats. Each 29 June a sailor delivers the Amuravela, a rhyming sermon in the local pixueto dialect.

There is a narrow-gauge station, but it is about 1.5 km uphill from the harbour.
