Llafranc
BeachLlafranc is a small beach village in Palafrugell on the Costa Brava, about 135 km from Barcelona, built around one bay of fine sand 330 m long with a marina at its eastern end. Above it, the Sant Sebastià headland has the Far de Sant Sebastià lighthouse, a watchtower and an Iberian settlement, about 40 minutes on foot along the camí de ronda from Calella. Skip the path on north to Cala Pedrosa unless you are used to mountain walking: it passes cliffs with no railings.

Access and parking
By car: the tourist office gives 135 km from Barcelona: take the AP-7 towards Girona, leave at exit 9, follow the C-35 towards Sant Feliu de Guíxols and then the C-31 towards Palamós, and leave at exit 331 (Palafrugell Sud). From the French border it is 80 km via exit 6 (Girona Nord) and the C-66 (Visit Palafrugell, getting here). The beach page puts parking about 2 minutes from the sand, and the office publishes a car park map for the whole municipality.
By air and train: Girona–Costa Brava airport is 45 km from Palafrugell and Barcelona airport 135 km. The nearest railway station is Flaçà, 25 km away, on the R11 line from Barcelona; Moventis-Sarfa buses run from there to Palafrugell.
By bus: line 8A links Begur, Palafrugell, Calella and Llafranc all year. From 1 July to 31 August, Bus 30′ runs Palafrugell – Calella – Llafranc every 30 minutes from 07:30 to 21:30, stopping at the Plaça Dr. Trueta roundabout, and Bus 60′ continues to Tamariu. A single ticket costs €2, and under-4s ride free (Visit Palafrugell, beach buses, checked Oct 2026).
What to expect
The bay is lined by a promenade that runs to the marina. It is framed by the church of Santa Rosa de Lima, with a Roman wine press beside it, and by the Sant Sebastià headland to the north (Visit Palafrugell, Llafranc).
Sant Sebastià de la Guarda: people have used this hilltop above the cliffs for at least 2,600 years. You can see a recently consolidated and signposted Iberian site from the 6th to 1st centuries BC, the 15th-century watchtower (a Bé Cultural d’Interès Nacional), the 18th-century hermitage and hostelry and the 19th-century lighthouse. On a clear day the view reaches the Pyrenees (Visit Palafrugell, Sant Sebastià).
The camí de ronda to Calella: the stretch from Els Tres Pins in Calella to the Sant Sebastià headland is 2,450 m, about 40 minutes, following the red-and-white GR-92 marks. It runs beside the sea to Llafranc beach, round the bay to the marina, then up a long flight of steps and the road to the lighthouse viewpoint. The section from Llafranc up to Sant Sebastià can also be done by car (Visit Palafrugell, Tres Pins to Sant Sebastià).
North to Cala Pedrosa: 2,137 m and about 45 minutes from Sant Sebastià. The coastal path itself is not in use there, so the route follows the GR-92 inland, past the Salt de Romaboira, a 187 m cliff. The town recommends it for people used to mountain walking (Visit Palafrugell, Sant Sebastià to Cala Pedrosa).

Accessibility and safety
The walk up to Sant Sebastià includes a long flight of steps; by car you can reach the top without them. On the way to Cala Pedrosa the first stretch passes cliffs with no railings. The town advises not to walk the camí de ronda during an easterly storm (llevant), and to wear proper shoes and carry water. For step-free beach access, its beaches page links a list of accessible beaches on the Costa Brava (Visit Palafrugell, beaches).
Best time to visit
July and August bring the most transport: Bus 30′, Bus 60′ and, from 25 July to 20 September, the Julivia bus. Outside those weeks line 8A is the bus you can count on,; check its timetable before you go. Whatever the month, leave the coastal path for another day in a llevant storm.
