Puerto Banús

Puerto Banús is the Puerto José Banús marina in Nueva Andalucía, part of the San Pedro Alcántara district of Marbella, about 6.5 km west of Plaza de los Naranjos in the old town in a straight line. Most visitors arrive by town bus, taxi or car and use one of the underground car parks behind the port. Shops and services line the quays around the 915 berths, while the pontoons where the boats are moored are private.

Access and parking

From Marbella town by bus: the town’s tourism office says the Urbanos de Marbella network links Marbella centre, Puerto Banús and San Pedro Alcántara, and points to the operator Avanza’s Marbella site (marbella.avanzagrupo.com) for lines and timetables (Turismo Marbella, getting around). OpenStreetMap places the Avanza stops Plaza Antonio Banderas and Cines Puerto Banús about 150–160 m north of the quay. Lines and times change, so check with the operator before you travel.

By taxi: the port has its own taxi rank, which OpenStreetMap puts about 110 m from the quay. Turismo Marbella lists the town taxi service on +34 952 77 44 88.

By car: the marina’s own directions use the Autovía del Mediterráneo from Málaga or Cádiz, which is partly the AP-7 toll road and partly the free A-7 (the old N-340). Málaga airport is about 60 km away according to the marina, and about 40 minutes by car from Marbella according to the town (Puerto Banús, how to get here; Turismo Marbella, getting here). There is no train station in Marbella or Puerto Banús; the nearest are Fuengirola and Málaga.

Parking: driving into the port itself is controlled at the control tower and needs a paid pass: a 24-hour One-day Pass costs €255 in high season and €185 in low season on the marina’s 2026–2027 price list (Puerto Banús, Access Card). For a visit, the public car parks behind the port are simpler. Turismo Marbella lists these indoor car parks, all open 24 hours with hourly rates (Turismo Marbella, parking):

• Saba Puerto Banús, Plaza Antonio Banderas: 1,066 spaces, 10 for people with reduced mobility, 7 EV charging points.
• Benabolá B51: 500 spaces.
• Cristamar, at the Cristamar shopping centre: 450 spaces.
• Playas del Duque, Avenida José Banús: 336 spaces.
• Marina Banús, at the Marina Banús shopping centre: 283 spaces, 9 for people with reduced mobility.

OpenStreetMap marks the Tembo, Marina Banús and Cristamar car parks about 250–350 m from the quay, all underground and paid.

What to expect

This is a marina with shops and services around it, not a sight with a ticket desk. The pontoons where the yachts are moored are tagged as private for walkers in OpenStreetMap, so you see the boats from the quayside. What the official sources say:

• The marina: 915 berths for boats up to 50 m, a minimum depth of 2.5 m, a fuel station and 24-hour marina staff and security for berth holders (Turismo Marbella, Puerto Banús; Puerto Banús, the marina).
• Around the quays: more than 250 businesses, among them banks, travel agencies and shops, according to Turismo Marbella.
• How it began: the marina says José Banús was building the Nueva Andalucía residential area in the 1960s when a meeting with the architect Noldi Schreck led him to a larger project, founded on the idea of a Mediterranean village in Andalusian style. It opened in 1970 with more than 1,500 guests, among them Rainier and Grace of Monaco, and a young Julio Iglesias sang (Puerto Banús, history).
• José Banús: OpenStreetMap marks a bust of the founder about 280 m west of the quay.

Skip it if you are looking for an old harbour town or a quiet fishing port: this is a leisure marina with shops, built as a new development. For historic streets, Marbella’s old town around Plaza de los Naranjos is about 6.5 km east.

• Entry: the official pages list no entry charge for visitors on foot; the paid Access Card and One-day Pass are for vehicles, checked at the control tower.
• Contact: the Puerto Banús control tower, +34 952 909 800.
• Arriving by boat: contact the marina staff in advance to book a berth; the port listens on VHF channel 9.
• Toilets: OpenStreetMap marks a free, wheelchair-accessible public toilet about 470 m east of the quay.
• Beaches either side: Puerto Banús – Levante on Avenida de las Naciones Unidas to the east, and Nueva Andalucía (El Duque) on Avenida de Lola Flores to the west. OpenStreetMap puts the nearest edge of Playa de Levante about 310 m and Playas del Duque about 390 m from the quay.

Accessibility and safety

Accessibility: Nueva Andalucía beach, west of the port, has the Blue Flag and the Q quality mark, parking for people with reduced mobility, walkways to the water’s edge, adapted toilets and showers, shade areas on the sand and in the water, and handrails into the sea (Turismo Marbella, Nueva Andalucía beach). Both Nueva Andalucía and Puerto Banús – Levante offer assisted bathing with amphibious chairs, which you need to book in advance (Turismo Marbella, Puerto Banús – Levante beach). The Saba and Marina Banús car parks have 10 and 9 spaces for people with reduced mobility. We found no official information on step-free routes along the quays, so ask the control tower if that matters.

Safety: the pontoons are private, so do not walk onto them without permission. The marina has CCTV and security staff around the clock, according to its own page.

Best time to visit

No official source names a best time for Puerto Banús. What can guide you: the car parks listed by the town are open 24 hours, and the assisted bathing service on the two beaches next to the port runs 11:00–20:00 in July and August and 11:00–19:00 in June and September, by booking (checked Sept 2026). If you plan to drive into the port area, the One-day Pass costs less in the marina’s low season.
