Zumaia Flysch
Natural parkAt Itzurun beach you can put a hand on the rock layer that marks the end of the dinosaurs.
What it actually is
Flysch is alternating hard and soft marine sediment, tipped almost vertical by the collision that built the Pyrenees, so the cliffs read like pages: roughly 60 million years of unbroken deep-marine deposition, with about 8 km of section between Deba and Zumaia.
How to actually see it
Timing matters more than anything. The shore platform below the San Telmo hermitage is only walkable around low water, so check a tide table. A geopark guide is the difference between standing next to the boundary layer and knowing it.
