Playa de Oyambre
BeachOn 14 June 1929 the French aircraft Oiseau Canari came down here, out of fuel after a 29-hour Atlantic crossing from Maine, with an uninvited stowaway aboard.
What it actually is
A long open arc of sand between Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera, inside the Parque Natural de Oyambre, declared by Ley 4/1988 and covering 5,758 hectares. Published lengths differ; 1.8 km is usual.
What to expect
No promenade, no bars, very little infrastructure — the point, and the warning. Cantabria’s official listing records no lifeguard service, showers or parking; the dunes behind, among the best preserved on this coast, are protected, so keep to the paths.
