Canelobre Caves (Cuevas del Canelobre)

The Canelobre Caves (Cuevas del Canelobre) lie in the Cabeçó d'Or mountains above the village of Busot, inland from Alicante. Inside is one of the most impressive show caves in the region — a single enormous chamber with a soaring, cathedral-like vault, among the highest of any cave in Spain.

Guided tours of around forty minutes lead down through the cavern past dramatically lit stalactites and stalagmites and the great central formation that gives the cave its name. The temperature is cool and steady year-round, and a reasonable level of fitness helps with the many steps down and back.

There is parking, a small café and an information area at the entrance, and the mountain road up offers wide views over the surrounding country. It makes an easy half-day from the coast, especially welcome on a hot day.
