Polop de la Marina

Polop de la Marina is a charming old village set on a hill just inland from Benidorm, with a tangle of narrow streets, whitewashed houses and a relaxed pace that feels a world away from the coast. It makes an easy and pretty half-day trip from the resorts.

The village is best known for its long fountain wall with many carved spouts pouring spring water, each said to represent a place in the area. Above the village, a short climb leads to the hilltop where an old castle once stood, now a peaceful viewpoint and cemetery with sweeping views over the valleys and out to the sea.

Quiet squares, small bars and traditional architecture reward a slow wander, and the surrounding hills make Polop a pleasant base for walks. It pairs well with nearby Guadalest for a day exploring the inland villages.
