Puig Campana

Why hike Puig Campana
Rising abruptly from near the sea just behind Benidorm, Puig Campana is the mountain of the Costa Blanca — a near-perfect limestone pyramid with a famous gap in its crest. You can walk the classic circular trail around its base, a medium route of about 11 kilometres, or take on the demanding climb to the summit for one of the finest panoramas in the whole province. Either way the mountain’s sheer presence, its legend and its views over the Mediterranean make it unforgettable.
Roldán’s Notch
The square gap in the secondary peak, said in legend to have been struck from the rock by the giant Roldán — the fallen block becoming Benidorm Island.
The PR-CV 289 loop
The classic circular trail around the base from Font del Molí: roughly 11 km and around 600 m of ascent, a medium grade, with views all the way.
Climb to 1,408 m
From the Coll del Pouet up past the Bancal del Moro saddle to the top — a challenging ascent of 4 to 8 hours for fit, well-shod walkers.
The panorama
From the summit: the Benidorm skyline, Serra Gelada, the Peñón de Ifach, the Aitana range, and on clear days the island of Ibiza.

Practical information
- Getting there: about 40 minutes by car from Alicante airport (ALC) and only around 8 minutes from Benidorm; free parking at the Font del Molí de Finestrat, where the trails begin.
- The walk: choose the medium circular loop (PR-CV 289, ~11 km, ~600 m ascent, 3–5 hours) or the demanding summit ascent (~1,000 m of climbing, 5–8 hours); sturdy boots and plenty of water are essential, as the upper mountain has no reliable spring.
- Best time to visit: spring and autumn; the summit is fully exposed, so avoid the midday heat and always check the forecast first.
- Don’t miss: the close-up view of the notch from the Bancal del Moro saddle, and the sweeping panorama over the Bay of Benidorm from the top.
