Marina Greenwich (Altea)

Marina Greenwich sits on the Costa Blanca coast at Campomanes, just south of Altea, and has an unusual claim: it lies almost exactly on the Greenwich meridian, the line of zero longitude where the eastern and western hemispheres meet. A marker celebrates the spot.

It is a working marina, with berths for hundreds of boats, a chandlery and services, wrapped by a curving promenade of bars and restaurants looking out over the moorings and the sea. It makes a pleasant, low-key place to sit with a coffee and watch the boats, with the Sierra Helada rising along the coast nearby.

The setting — between the resorts of Altea and l'Albir — and the meridian curiosity make it a popular short stop, though it is more a place to relax by the water than a major sight in itself.
