The Far de l'Albir — the Albir lighthouse — sits on a headland inside the Serra Gelada Natural Park, between l'Albir and Altea, and is reached by one of the most popular easy walks on the Costa Blanca. A well-surfaced path of around two and a half kilometres each way climbs gently to the lighthouse through pine and Mediterranean scrub.
The reward is the scenery along the way: cliffs dropping to a clear blue bay, viewpoints over old ochre mines and sea caves, and wide views back over Altea and the coast. Wildlife is part of the appeal, and with luck dolphins can be spotted in the bay below.
The route is suitable for most ages and even pushchairs, though there is little shade and no facilities once you set off, so water and sun protection help. It is a particularly lovely walk in the soft light of early morning or late afternoon.
