Dénia Castle
Historic siteDénia Castle crowns the hill at the centre of the town — a layered fortress running from its Islamic origins through medieval and later rebuilding, and the best way to read the history of the northern gateway of the Costa Blanca.
Why visit Dénia Castle
A walk up through the gates and ramparts is the best way to understand Dénia. Inside the walls, the Governor’s Palace and an archaeology museum tell the story of the site, while the climb — partly steep, partly stepped — opens wide views over the red-tiled old town, the fishing port and marina, and the sea toward the Balearics.
Islamic to medieval
The fortress carries layers from its Islamic foundations through medieval and later rebuilding, written into its gates, walls and towers.
Governor’s Palace & museum
Within the walls sit the Governor’s Palace and an archaeology museum that tell the long story of Dénia and its hilltop.
Gates & ramparts
The way up runs through successive gates and along the ramparts — partly steep, partly stepped, and full of vantage points.
Out to the Balearics
From the top, wide views open over the red-tiled old town, the port and marina, and the sea toward Ibiza and the Balearics.
The old town
At the foot of the hill, Dénia’s old streets, market and seafront make an easy continuation of the visit.
Ferry to the islands
Dénia is the ferry port for Ibiza and Formentera, and the castle looks straight down over the harbour they leave from.
