Denia is the capital of the Marina Alta, a port town below an 11th-century castle where ferries leave for the Balearic Islands. A UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, it is known for its red prawns and a long coast running from the sandy Les Marines to the rocky coves and clear water of Les Rotes. The Montgo massif rises behind the town.
