Altafulla

Village

Altafulla is one of the Costa Dorada’s prettiest small towns — a medieval walled quarter on the hill, a castle above, and a sandy beach lined by a whitewashed fishermen’s quarter below.

Region: Tarragona Province: Tarragona, Catalonia Type: Medieval town & beach Old town: Vila Closa Near: Tarragona

Why visit Altafulla

Just east of Tarragona, Altafulla keeps a foot in two worlds. On the hill sits the Vila Closa, a walled medieval old town of steep lanes around a castle; below, a relaxed sandy beach is lined by the whitewashed houses of the old fishermen’s quarter, Baixamar. The Roman villa of Els Munts stands close by. Small, characterful and far quieter than the big resorts.
