Costa del Maresme Map: Mataró, Calella and Canet
The Maresme is the fifty-five kilometres of coast between Barcelona and the Tordera river, and its defining feature is a railway. The R1 line was laid along the shoreline in the 1840s and is still there, which is why these beaches have a track behind them rather than a promenade – and why the whole coast is reachable from Barcelona without a car.
Town guides in this comarca
- Mataró — the Maresme capital, with Roman Iluro underneath it
- Calella — the package-holiday veteran, an hour from Barcelona by train
- Canet de Mar — where the Palau de la Música was drawn
- Vilassar de Mar — a working Maresme coast town
For the coast as a whole see the Costa Barcelona guide, the region page, or the full Costa Barcelona map.
